Changpeng Zhao’s Provocative Theory

In a fascinating dialogue with popular Turkish influencers on social media, Changpeng Zhao, the former CEO of Binance, posed a provocative theory regarding the origins of Bitcoin. He speculated that an advanced artificial intelligence from the future might have created Bitcoin, stating,

“It’s conceivable that it could be software traveling through time. While it’s a stretch to imagine today, it could indeed be plausible.”

Zhao dubbed this idea among the more unusual interpretations of one of the most enduring mysteries in the cryptocurrency universe.

Zhao’s Insights on Anonymity

Despite his entertaining musings, Zhao maintained that he has no knowledge of Bitcoin’s true creator, famously known by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

“I do not know who he is, and I’ve never had any collaborations with them, although I know individuals who did back in the early days of Bitcoin,”

he clarified.

Zhao pointed out the complexities involved in maintaining anonymity if Bitcoin were developed by a group.

“If it were an individual, they have done an impressive job of concealing their identity,”

he remarked.

Speculation on Satoshi Nakamoto’s Identity

Considerable speculation surrounds who might actually be Satoshi. Some prominent candidates proposed over the years include:

  • Hal Finney, a prominent cypherpunk who is no longer alive
  • Nick Szabo, a computer scientist
  • Len Sassaman, a privacy activist who is also deceased
  • Adam Back, who leads Blockstream

Interestingly, an HBO documentary from last year claimed that Canadian developer Peter Todd was Satoshi Nakamoto, a hypothesis that faced substantial criticism and skepticism from the cryptocurrency community.
