The Growing Fintech Landscape in the Netherlands

The fintech sector in the Netherlands is making headlines as Quantoz Payments B.V. has secured the hiring of Arjen Van Klaarbergen, a seasoned attorney with a background at Binance, to serve as the company’s General Counsel. His expertise is expected to enhance Quantoz’s approach to regulatory challenges, particularly regarding their stablecoins, EURQ and USDQ.

Expertise in Regulatory Challenges

With nearly twenty years of legal experience in the financial services and digital asset sectors, Van Klaarbergen is well-equipped to navigate the complexities introduced by the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). His previous role at Binance saw him managing vital legal frameworks in the EU and UK, where he addressed regulatory compliance in the fields of blockchain and Web3.

Previous Contributions and Strategic Appointment

Before his tenure at Binance, Van Klaarbergen contributed significantly to IBANXS, a banking platform, and also served at NautaDutilh, a prominent law firm in the Benelux region, focusing on issues related to financial regulation and anti-money laundering.

This strategic appointment comes as Quantoz Payments prepares for the official launch of its EURQ and USDQ stablecoins in November 2024. These digital currencies, pegged to the euro and the U.S. dollar respectively, are being designed to align with MiCA regulations, enabling their use in secondary market transactions and crypto exchanges.

CEO Confidence and Future Outlook

Arnoud Star Busmann, CEO of Quantoz Payments, expressed confidence in the decision, indicating that Van Klaarbergen’s immense experience in a leading digital asset exchange positions the company favorably to adapt to the evolving legal landscape in the sector.

Van Klaarbergen himself conveyed enthusiasm about joining Quantoz at such a critical moment, indicating the rapid growth of stablecoins and his eagerness to assist the firm in navigating the upcoming regulatory shifts.

With the full implementation of MiCA set for 2025, Quantoz is poised for expansion across Europe, bolstered by Van Klaarbergen’s legal guidance.

Innovative Collaborations

Additionally, the collaborative efforts of Quantoz Payments with NPEX, and Dusk earlier this year culminated in the introduction of EURQ, the first digital euro supported by a Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF)-licensed stock exchange. This initiative marks an important step in bridging conventional finance and blockchain technology as they work to ensure compliance with MiCA.
