Bitmine’s Ethereum Staking Initiative
Bitmine has significantly boosted its Ethereum staking initiative, recently adding 86,400 ETH—equivalent to $266.3 million—on January 10, 2026. This latest stake elevates the firm’s total Ethereum holdings in staking to 1,080,512 ETH, valued at around $3.33 billion. The company’s aggressive approach to staking commenced on December 26, 2025, when it initially deposited 74,880 ETH into the staking pool.
Leadership and Strategy
Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat Global Advisors and now chairman of Bitmine, has been at the helm of this strategic acquisition, which has seen the firm amass over 4.1 million ETH, thus holding 3.43% of the overall Ethereum supply. Bitmine’s strategy has shifted from merely collecting Ethereum to actively generating yield through staking, with approximately a quarter of its total holdings currently staked to earn rewards.
Staking Yields and Growth
At an annual staking yield of approximately 3.12%, the 1.08 million ETH staked could yield about 33,700 ETH each year. The company had marked a rapid increase in staked ETH, reaching significant amounts such as 342,560 ETH valued at nearly $1 billion within just two days from December 26 to December 28, 2025. By January 4, 2026, the total staked Ethereum climbed to 659,219 tokens, valued at $2.1 billion, marking a tremendous increase of 250,592 ETH in just one week.
Recent Investments and Future Goals
In the initial days of January 2026 alone, Bitmine invested over $1 billion in staking; notable deposits included around 99,800 ETH worth approximately $344.4 million on January 8, bringing total staked holdings to 908,192 ETH. Following the recent 86,400 ETH stake, the total surpassed 1 million tokens.
Lee has directed Bitmine’s pivot from Bitcoin mining to focusing on Ethereum management since his appointment on June 30, 2025. The company also undertook a large financial strategy, including a $500 million placement in July, which allowed rapid purchases that increased their holdings to 1,150,263 ETH worth about $4.9 billion by mid-August 2025. By early January 2026, the company’s ETH reserves peaked at over 4 million ETH, with a notable single-week accumulation of 98,852 tokens at an average price of $2,991 each.
As of January 4, 2026, Bitmine’s holdings had expanded to 4,143,502 ETH, valued between $13.2 and $14.2 billion, affirming its position as the largest source of new capital influx into Ethereum globally. The company aims to ultimately control 5% of all Ethereum tokens on the market.
