Bitwise’s Contribution to Bitcoin Development
Bitwise, a prominent crypto asset management and exchange-traded fund (ETF) issuer, has contributed $233,000 to support three organizations dedicated to Bitcoin development. This significant donation continues the firm’s yearly tradition of funding vital contributions to the Bitcoin network, which upholds the infrastructure of the leading cryptocurrency. The donation was derived from gains made through Bitwise’s Bitcoin ETF, BITB, currently managing assets worth over $2.7 billion.
Recipients of the Funding
The recipients of this year’s funding include Brink, OpenSats, and the Human Rights Foundation’s Bitcoin Development Fund, all of which had previously benefited from a $150,000 donation made by Bitwise in 2025. Reflecting on the importance of this support, Hong Kim, co-founder and CTO of Bitwise Asset Management, remarked that
“Open-source developers are the unsung heroes of Bitcoin, donating their time to secure the network and uphold its integrity.”
He further emphasized the company’s commitment to act as a responsible steward of the ecosystem, akin to how traditional financial institutions invest in their operational frameworks.
The selection of these three organizations stemmed from their unwavering dedication to the Bitcoin network and its foundational protocol, according to Kim.
Market Movements and Future Outlook
In recent market movements, Bitcoin saw a notable rise of over 7.5% within a 24-hour period, trading around $73,210. Despite this surge, the cryptocurrency is still approximately 42% lower than its peak of $126,080 reached in October, a downturn that some analysts view as part of an ongoing four-year market cycle. However, there are dissenting opinions regarding whether this historical cycle remains relevant.
Looking ahead, Bitwise has optimistically forecasted that Bitcoin is likely to achieve a new all-time high this year. The firm believes that traditional cyclical factors such as fluctuating interest rates, Bitcoin’s halving mechanism, and market leverage trends will have less impact on price movements in the future.
Support for Other Cryptocurrencies
In addition to their support for Bitcoin developers, Bitwise also contributed to Ethereum open-source projects last year, utilizing the proceeds from its spot ETH ETF, ETHW. At the beginning of the year, the asset management firm reported assets under management totaling $15 billion and offered over 40 different investment products, including ETFs for other notable cryptocurrencies such as XRP, Solana, and the popular meme coin Dogecoin.
