BlackRock Expands ETF Offerings in Cryptocurrency

BlackRock, a prominent player in the asset management sector, is set to broaden its range of Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), particularly in cryptocurrencies. The firm has already made significant strides in the Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF markets and, according to insights from Arkham Intelligence, is preparing to introduce a new ETF centered on Ethereum that focuses on generating income through staking mechanisms.

Introducing the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust

This innovative proposal, known as the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust, aims to alter the landscape for institutional investment in Ethereum by transforming the cryptocurrency from a primarily static asset into one that actively produces yields. Although the ETF has not been officially launched, it is anticipated to be listed under the ticker symbol ETHB.

Building on the foundation of its successful iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) which has secured over $6 billion in assets since its inception, the ETHB product is poised to offer unique benefits. Unlike traditional Ethereum ETFs, this new fund will concentrate specifically on staking rewards. BlackRock plans to allocate between 70% and 95% of the Ethereum held by the trust for staking activities.

Liquidity and Distribution Strategy

To maintain flexibility and ensure sufficient liquidity for redemptions, the firm intends to keep a “liquidity sleeve” consisting of 5% to 30% in unstaked Ethereum. This strategic reserve is designed to cater to investor needs even when a large portion of assets is tied up in staking.

Moreover, the proposed structure includes an appealing distribution for shareholders, with 82% of the staking rewards directed towards investors. The remaining 18% will be shared between BlackRock and its partner, Coinbase. Additionally, the trust will levy a modest sponsor fee of 0.25% on assets.

Future Outlook

While the specific launch date for this anticipated Ethereum Staking ETF remains under wraps, industry expectations suggest it could debut in the first half of 2026, marking a significant development in institutional cryptocurrency investment strategies.
