Introduction to Exaion and Etherlink

Exaion, a firm under the umbrella of EDF Group, a significant player in the French electric utility sector, has stepped into the role of a validator for Etherlink, a layer 2 blockchain that operates on the Tezos platform. This appointment marks a significant development in Exaion’s journey, following its engagement with Tezos as a corporate baker back in October 2020.

Etherlink: Features and Capabilities

Etherlink is designed to be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), facilitating seamless and non-custodial integration with various Ethereum tools. Its architecture leverages smart rollups from Tezos, enhancing both scalability and transparency in transactions.

Launched in late 2024, the Etherlink layer 2 solution connects efficiently with other blockchains that are EVM-compatible.

Exaion’s Role and Vision

According to Fatih Balyeli, Exaion’s CEO and co-founder, this new role allows the company to contribute to maintaining network security, as well as ensuring that users accessing the chain receive top-notch digital services. He emphasized Exaion’s pride in supporting Tezos, which he feels exemplifies French technological innovation that resonates with the company’s own values.

Growth of Etherlink and Future Potential

The Etherlink blockchain has been gaining momentum shortly after its deployment, attracting a diverse array of projects such as Spiko, a platform for money market funds, and Midas, known for real-world asset offerings with backing from Coinbase. Various other platforms are exploring the functionalities of the L2 solution, including applications involving tokenized assets and smart contract execution.

With Exaion now commencing its validator functions, the overall stability and decentralization of the network are expected to improve. Arthur Breitman, co-founder of Tezos, highlighted the critical importance of having trustworthy validators within the ecosystem, stating:

“Robust validation from reputable entities enhances the security of the Etherlink rollup.”
