Growing Concerns Over Fake Ledger Correspondence

In a worrying new development within the cryptocurrency sector, fake correspondence purporting to come from Ledger—renowned for its hardware wallets—has been circulating among crypto enthusiasts. These fraudulent letters instruct recipients to “validate” their wallets or face the potential loss of their funds. The alarming trend was brought to light by BitGo’s CEO, Mike Belshe, who showcased a photo of one such letter, marked with a suspicious QR code likely leading to a harmful phishing website. The letters have been dispatched via the United States Postal Service (USPS), raising concerns about the lengths to which scammers will go.

Warnings from the Community

Troy Lindsey, who also received the deceptive letter, cautioned others, saying,

“These are all scams; do not fall for any of these.”

This incident underscores the continuously advancing tactics employed by cybercriminals aiming to compromise sensitive information, including private keys and funds, from unsuspecting cryptocurrency users.

Recent Phishing Incidents

The crypto community has faced a surge of phishing scams, especially notable in April 2025, when an elderly victim lost $330 million in Bitcoin due to deceitful phishing schemes. According to on-chain investigator ZackXBT, this incident involved two suspects linked to a call center scam based in Camden, UK.

Targeted Attacks on Major Exchanges

In light of these growing threats, Coinbase, a major player in the cryptocurrency market, revealed it had also been targeted by a ransom demand. Confidential user data was leaked by customer service contractors who had since been terminated, leading to threats for a $20 million payout. Fortunately, important details such as private keys and access to Coinbase Prime accounts remained secure, although the situation has led to strong criticism from figures like TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington, who warned that such breaches could escalate to violence against customers involved.

Conclusion: The Need for Vigilance

The urgency of awareness and protective measures for crypto users is evident amid these evolving phishing tactics.
