Ethereum’s Breakthrough in Blockchain Technology
Vitalik Buterin, one of the minds behind Ethereum, has asserted that the blockchain is on the verge of overcoming its longstanding trilemma of scalability, security, and decentralization. This breakthrough is attributed to the effective integration of ZK-EVMs — zero-knowledge Ethereum virtual machines — which have now achieved production-grade status, in conjunction with PeerDAS, which is operational on the mainnet.
Collectively, these advancements are set to equip Ethereum with enhanced bandwidth, robust consensus mechanisms, and a decentralized structure, three elements previously deemed unattainable at the same time.
Future Projections for Ethereum
Buterin forecasts that, commencing in 2026, the gas limits for non-ZK-EVM transactions are expected to rise significantly, with ZK-EVM nodes anticipated to start appearing in the same year. By the timeframe of 2027 to 2030, ZK-EVMs will take center stage as the dominant method for validating blocks.
Additionally, the exploration of distributed block building will continue as a forward-looking goal aimed at mitigating the risks associated with centralization and improving geographic fairness.
