In conjunction with this upgrade, plans are in place to optimize Ethereum’s scalability framework, aimed at providing reduced transaction fees for Layer 2 networks and ensuring sustainable bandwidth and hardware demands for those running node operations. Currently, Layer 2 networks, including Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base, utilize blobs — cost-effective temporary data structures — to relay transaction data back to Ethereum. This process, however, requires every full Ethereum node to download complete blob data for verification, which becomes increasingly cumbersome with a rise in Layer 2 activity.

Efficient Distribution System

The Fusaka upgrade promises to resolve these challenges by implementing a more efficient distribution system for blobs across the network. It will enable nodes to store only a random 1/8th of the overall blob data, reducing resource strain as the network scales. Following the deployment of the Fusaka upgrade in December, analysts predict that Ethereum could experience substantial price movements, as such upgrades historically lead to increased adoption and improved network performance.
