HashKey Exchange Receives Approval from JPMorgan Chase

On August 3, HashKey Exchange announced that it has received approval from JPMorgan Chase to establish a client funds account. This significant development marks a new opportunity for the Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency platform, enhancing its ability to segregate customer funds and facilitate U.S. dollar transactions.

Integration with Global Banking Systems

The parent company, HashKey Holdings, emphasized that this approval would more closely integrate the exchange with global banking systems, although it did not provide specific details about when the account would go live, the anticipated fund balances, available payment methods, or financial terms associated with the account.

HashKey indicated that this new banking avenue would improve the stability and transparency of its USD funding routes and is anticipated to assist institutional clients and investors utilizing its regulated trading platform. Notably, HashKey claims that it is the first licensed digital asset exchange in Asia to secure such an account with JPMorgan, although it should be noted that the announcement pertains to the approval rather than the operational launch of customer deposit and withdrawal capabilities.

Client Funds Account Structure

The client funds account is structured to ensure that customer deposits are kept distinct from HashKey’s operational finances, adhering to requirements set by Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). The SFC mandates that licensed virtual asset platforms maintain client funds in segregated accounts, denominated in the same currency.

Hash Blockchain Limited, which manages HashKey Exchange, is recognized on the SFC’s list of licensed virtual asset trading platforms, having obtained its license in November 2022. However, the SFC warns that such licensing does not represent an endorsement of a platform’s financial performance or reliability.

Recent Developments and Collaborations

This recent endorsement from JPMorgan follows HashKey’s initiation of a client funds account with DBS Bank on June 30, which allows for fiat transactions including deposits, withdrawals, and settlement. DBS, recognized as Singapore’s largest bank with approximately $697.77 billion in assets as of late 2025, alongside JPMorgan, which ranks fifth globally, provides HashKey with valuable connections to both Asian and U.S. banking infrastructures.

Since its listing in Hong Kong in December 2025, HashKey has actively expanded its regulated operations and access to traditional finance. Its initial public offering raised about HK$1.607 billion (around $206 million) before expenses, with JPMorgan participating as a joint sponsor in this offering, which initially targeted up to $215 million.

In addition to these developments, HashKey has contributed to a working group with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to explore regulations and infrastructure for tokenized bonds. In July, the company also streamlined its operations by merging its separate applications—HashKey Exchange and HashKey Global—into a single portal, while maintaining jurisdictional separations for users and digital products across Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and Bermuda.

Limitations of the New Account

It is essential to note that the new JPMorgan account does not expand HashKey’s existing cryptocurrency license nor does it enable the exchange to cater to restricted clients in the United States. Instead, its primary function is to serve as an additional regulated financial channel for fiat transactions linked to the exchange. The timeline for when the account will be available for customer use, including which currencies will be supported or whether the service will initially cater to institutional clients, has yet to be disclosed.
