Hong Kong Officials Withdraw from Bitcoin Asia Summit
The upcoming Bitcoin Asia Summit, scheduled for August 28-29, has seen notable changes in its lineup as important figures have chosen to step back.
Withdrawal of Key Speakers
Ashley Alder, the Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong, alongside Legislative Councilor Wu Chi-wai, has been pulled from the list of speakers. Initially listed to participate, both individuals have now opted to withdraw their involvement.
Reasons for Withdrawal
Reports indicate that this decision came after they received recommendations to avoid any interactions with Eric Trump, who is slated to speak at the event. Eric Trump, the son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, holds the position of Executive Vice President within the Trump Organization and is engaged in various cryptocurrency initiatives within the United States.
The SFC later clarified that Alder’s absence was due to a prior business commitment, while Wu Chi-wai cited family obligations as his reason for not attending.
Concerns Over Perceptions
According to a report from the South China Morning Post, sources reveal that the pullout was also influenced by advisory directives to steer clear of any contact with Eric Trump to prevent possible perceptions of endorsement or cordial relations with the Trump family, highlighting the sensitive nature surrounding interactions with his lineage.
