JPMorgan Chase Expands JPM Coin to Ethereum Blockchain
JPMorgan Chase, recognized as the largest financial institution globally by market value, is set to broaden the reach of its JPM Coin deposit token to the Ethereum blockchain. This strategic move aims to facilitate payments and enable the settlement of transactions involving tokenized assets for its institutional clientele, according to a Bloomberg report published on Monday.
Functionality of JPM Coin
The JPM Coin operates as a representation of US dollar deposits held at JPMorgan, permitting qualifying clients to execute fund transfers swiftly and continuously throughout the day. Emma Landriault, who heads Kinexys Labs globally, noted that cryptocurrency firms could leverage JPM Coin for blockchain payments, while traditional financial entities could utilize it for trade settlements or collateral postings.
Reasons for Choosing Ethereum
One key factor leading to the adoption of Ethereum for this expansion is its robust liquidity and its established use among clients. It is important to highlight that, although the JPM Coin will be transacted on public blockchain networks, access will remain exclusive to chosen institutional participants.
Previous Endeavors and Future Plans
This initiative comes on the heels of JPMorgan’s previous endeavors, such as the November 2025 launch of JPM Coin on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 solution developed by the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, where the bank expressed intentions to support a variety of public blockchains. Additionally, in January, JPMorgan revealed plans to extend its JPM Coin capabilities to the Canton Network.
Cointelegraph has reached out to JPMorgan for further insights regarding this expansion but has yet to receive a response.
