Lighter’s Mainnet Launch
Lighter has officially unveiled its public mainnet on Ethereum’s Layer 2, marking a significant milestone after a comprehensive eight-month beta period. This decentralized exchange for perpetual contracts positions itself to rival existing platforms such as Hyperliquid.
Innovative Technology and Features
The launch incorporates innovative, zero-knowledge (ZK) technology for trading, designed to enhance the speed and efficiency of transactions in a manner akin to high-frequency finance. Additionally, the second season of its points initiative will run until 2025.
User Growth and Trading Environment
The platform initially opened its beta to a limited group of 100 traders, but it has rapidly expanded, now boasting over 188,000 unique accounts and more than 50,000 active users engaging daily. While retail users can trade without incurring fees, those leveraging APIs for trading, including market makers and high-frequency traders, will now incur costs.
Lighter has also put in place measures to prevent practices like wash trading and Sybil attacks, reinforcing its commitment to a fair trading environment.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Lighter’s team is focused on enhancing integration with Ethereum’s decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem and other Layer 2 networks, aiming to solidify its position within the burgeoning market for onchain derivatives.
