Peter Schiff’s Reflections on Bitcoin

Peter Schiff, a well-known advocate for gold, reflected on his early views regarding Bitcoin, expressing that his greatest misjudgment was assuming others would grasp the inherent flaws of the cryptocurrency.

Early Encounters with Bitcoin

In a recent discussion with Raoul Pal from Real Vision, Schiff recounted how a colleague introduced him to Bitcoin back in 2010 when it was just valued at a few dollars. He candidly remarked that he wished he had invested at that time.

Criticism and Skepticism

Schiff began criticizing Bitcoin in 2011, labeling it a passing trend. Despite witnessing the cryptocurrency’s considerable price increases over the years, he has remained steadfast in his skepticism.

Gold vs. Bitcoin in 2025

As 2025 unfolds, it has proven to be a successful year for gold investors, particularly for Schiff, who maintains that Bitcoin’s performance has been lackluster in comparison to traditional assets like gold and silver. He contends that Bitcoin’s narrative as a “store of value” is weakened if gold and silver continue to excel.

Future Predictions

Currently, Schiff forecasts a further dip in Bitcoin’s value, predicting it could fall to around $42,000. He particularly cites market patterns that suggest an alignment between Bitcoin’s price and the price of gold — estimating that when gold hits $6,000 per ounce, Bitcoin might align at seven ounces of gold, or $42,000.

He cautions that while this may not represent Bitcoin’s lowest point, there could be minor price rebounds from that level.
