Bhutan’s Bitcoin Transactions
Recent data from Arkham Intelligence, a blockchain analytics company, indicates that Bhutan has relocated approximately $11 million in Bitcoin from its sovereign wealth holdings. This transaction, highlighted in a post on social media platform X, marks a continuation of Bhutan’s strategy of periodically transferring funds associated with its cryptocurrency portfolio.
Previous Transfers and Trends
Notably, a previous similar transfer took place about a month earlier, in which Bhutan liquidated roughly $7 million in Bitcoin through QCP Capital, a digital asset trading firm that frequently collaborates with institutional investors. Arkham’s analysis reveals that Bhutan typically opts for smaller-scale sales, ranging between $5 million and $10 million per transaction, rather than initiating large, singular disposals. A substantial selling trend was recorded between mid and late September 2025.
Bhutan’s Position in the Cryptocurrency Market
This recent transaction is part of an ongoing series of movements from wallets associated with Bhutan that has caught the interest of the cryptocurrency market. Despite these occasional sales, Bhutan still ranks among the largest holders of Bitcoin within sovereign nations, maintaining an impressive reserve of approximately 5,600 BTC, equating to a valuation in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
The country’s cryptocurrency wealth largely stems from mining operations supported by renewable hydroelectric power, enabling Bhutan to build a formidable digital asset portfolio in recent years.
