RedotPay Postpones IPO Amid Regulatory Challenges
RedotPay, a Hong Kong-based payments firm specializing in stablecoin transactions, has chosen to postpone its anticipated initial public offering (IPO) in the United States, a move that could potentially secure over $1 billion in funding. This delay is largely attributed to the company’s navigation of complex regulatory demands and ongoing legal challenges related to its operations and partnerships, particularly with Binance. According to a report from Bloomberg on August 14, insiders revealed that the company is working through these obstacles before launching its presence in the US market.
Recent Developments and Growth
A representative from RedotPay opted not to provide specific comments on the revised IPO timeline when approached by crypto.news; however, they confirmed that the company had recently secured a money transmitter license in the US. The spokesperson emphasized,
“Our strategy continues to focus on global regulatory compliance and business growth. This week, we obtained a money transmitter license in the US. We are preparing to launch our product in the US.”
In the latest investor update for the second quarter of 2026, RedotPay announced substantial growth in its user base, revenue, profit, and margins, though exact numbers were not disclosed. The company first hinted at the possibility of a US IPO in February 2023, when it was reported that they were considering a listing on Wall Street valuing the firm at over $4 billion, backed by prominent financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Jefferies Financial Group.
Company Background and Funding
Founded in April 2023, RedotPay is recognized for its innovative services in stablecoin payments, including crypto payment cards and multicurrency wallets. By early 2023, the firm boasted over 6 million users across more than 100 countries and was processing significant annual payment volumes. In addition, during 2025, RedotPay raised an impressive $194 million through various funding rounds that established its place as a unicorn company.
Despite ongoing discussions for an additional funding round expected to seek up to $150 million, RedotPay is simultaneously attempting to restructure internally to enhance its growth strategy. In March, the company indicated its ambition to adapt from a startup to a robust unicorn, focusing on strengthening its team and operations.
Legal Challenges and Market Position
However, RedotPay’s growth has not come without challenges. The company is facing a legal battle against Binance affiliates in Hong Kong, who are pursuing nearly $473 million in damages. The allegations claim that RedotPay’s founders misused confidential information from their time at Binance to establish a competing service, enticing Binance users to switch to RedotPay. The company has firmly denied these allegations and stated its intention to vigorously defend against the claims.
The legal tension isn’t confined to Hong Kong. Similar disputes have surfaced in Singapore, with conflicts regarding the status of ongoing legal challenges. Following a hearing on August 7, RedotPay expressed confidence that Binance would cease its claims in Singapore, a statement which Binance has disputed.
Alongside the legal hurdles, Binance itself has encountered significant scrutiny. In July, a large group of British investors initiated a lawsuit in London against Binance and its founder, Changpeng Zhao, demanding at least £150 million (approximately $200 million) tied to alleged financial losses from crypto derivatives not authorized under regulatory standards. Binance stated that it would defend itself resolutely against these allegations.
Future Prospects
While RedotPay’s IPO plans remain in flux, the recent acquisition of a money transmitter license allows the company to advance toward offering its services in the US. Previously, in June 2025, RedotPay expanded its payment operations into Brazil, utilizing the Circle Payments Network to enable seamless crypto transactions directly to Brazilian bank accounts, converting the assets into local currency efficiently. CEO Michael Gao highlighted the company’s mission to simplify payment processes for users in emerging markets.
As preparations continue for their US product launch following the license approval, RedotPay has not announced any concrete timelines for resuming its IPO ambitions or the status of discussions with its financial partners. The company’s continued commitment to compliance and business expansion underscores its strategic focus as it adapts to evolving market landscapes.
