The problematic account has been actively reaching out to individuals, promoting what it claims to be an XRP giveaway, which is a common strategy employed by scammers to lure unsuspecting victims. David Schwartz, the company’s Chief Technology Officer Emeritus, highlighted the fraudulent account on social media, referencing a similar incident from 2019 where another account posed as Garlinghouse to distribute misleading messages.
This fraudulent account follows a typical scam template: it instructs users to send a certain amount of XRP with the false promise of returning a larger amount afterward. Schwartz was quick to clarify that the Instagram account does not belong to Garlinghouse, aiming to dissuade users from engaging with the scam.

Additionally, Ripple has clarified that it does not maintain an official presence on Telegram, advising users to exercise extreme caution regarding any accounts claiming to represent the brand on that platform. Users are reminded that Ripple employees, including Garlinghouse himself, will never solicit wallet credentials, passwords, or personal information through unofficial channels.
