Miami Welcomes a Tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto
Miami has welcomed a new tribute to the enigmatic figure behind Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, with the arrival of a striking statue installed in the city. This initiative was made possible by prominent figures like Brandon Lutnick, Chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, and Michael Saylor, co-founder and executive chairman of Strategy. The unveiling of the statue was recently announced on X by LaDoger, showcasing how the collaboration resulted in bringing this artistic homage to Miami.
Artistic Design and Vision
Designed by acclaimed Italian artist Valentina Picozzi, known for her Satoshi Gallery project, the statue features a captivating illusion that allows Satoshi’s silhouette to become apparent from certain angles, while appearing nearly invisible when viewed head-on. Picozzi’s work has successfully placed similar statues in multiple cities, adding a unique and creative representation of Bitcoin’s creator.
Brandon Lutnick expressed his enthusiasm on social media, stating, “Satoshi has come to the US, so proud to bring this powerful sculpture to the city of Miami,” as he shared visuals of the momentous occasion with Michael Saylor.
Impact on the Cryptocurrency Community
Michael Saylor continues to be an influential voice in the cryptocurrency realm, with his organization, Strategy, currently holding a substantial Bitcoin treasury of 641,692 BTC. Recently, they made headlines with a noteworthy purchase of 487 BTC for approximately $49.9 million.
This Miami statue marks a significant addition to a global movement recognizing Nakamoto, following the debut of similar statues in places like Hanoi, Vietnam, Switzerland, El Salvador, and Japan. In fact, the recent installation in Miami was the fifth produced by the Satoshi Gallery project, which celebrates the impact of Bitcoin worldwide.
Notably, the first statue was unveiled on October 25, 2024, at the Plan B Bitcoin forum during an event aimed at establishing Lugano and Swiss-Tether as major Bitcoin centers. Unfortunately, that original statue was reported stolen shortly after its unveiling, only to be recovered earlier this August, emphasizing the ongoing interest and homage to the cryptocurrency’s mysterious creator.
