Philanthropic Gesture in South Korea

A notable act of philanthropy has emerged from South Korea as Mr. Kim Jusik, a 78-year-old crypto investor, has donated 1 Bitcoin to the Development Fund of Seoul University Hospital. This digital currency donation is valued at an impressive 157 million Korean won.

Mr. Kim’s Vision for Philanthropy

Speaking at the donation event, Mr. Kim expressed his belief in Bitcoin as a forward-thinking method for contributions, stating:

“I see Bitcoin as a modern tool for giving that reflects the current societal trends. My hope is that this gesture encourages a new culture of sharing, and I wish to continue participating in such initiatives in the future.”

Commitment to Innovation and Charity

Mr. Kim is recognized not only for his commitment to philanthropy but also for his investment interests in pioneering technologies including cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing. Earlier this year in August, he made headlines by donating the same amount of Bitcoin to both the Korean Red Cross and the Social Welfare Fund of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Notably, his contribution to the Red Cross marked a significant milestone as it was the first substantial individual donation made in digital assets since the Financial Services Commission of Korea approved the acceptance of virtual asset donations by non-profits, enabling them to liquidate these assets for funding purposes.

The funds received by Seoul University Hospital will similarly be liquidated following established guidelines for virtual asset handling, contributing to the hospital’s development initiatives.
