Spokane Enacts Ban on Cryptocurrency Kiosks
In a proactive measure against digital asset fraud, the city of Spokane, Washington, has officially enacted a ban on cryptocurrency kiosks. This decision follows a unanimous vote by the City Council, which aimed to safeguard the residents from the rising tide of scams associated with these automated machines designed for trading digital currencies.
New Ordinance Details
The newly established ordinance specifically prohibits the operation of virtual currency kiosks throughout Spokane, acknowledging a worrying trend in the area where numerous scams have emerged linked to the use of cryptocurrency ATMs. Reports have indicated a jump in cases where victims have lost substantial sums of money, prompting the council to take action.
“The ordinance serves as a crucial mechanism to protect consumers from individuals who exploit digital currency for fraudulent purposes,” stated a representative from the council.
Cryptocurrency kiosks facilitate the buying and transferring of digital assets, using cash or debit and credit cards. However, despite enabling users to manage their crypto holdings, they do not dispense cash, which complicates the transaction recovery process once completed.
