Steak ‘n Shake Launches Bitcoin Steakburger

Steak ‘n Shake, the popular burger chain, is reinforcing its connection with the cryptocurrency community by unveiling the “Bitcoin Steakburger” on Thursday. This launch coincides with the five-month milestone of the restaurant accepting Bitcoin (BTC) as a form of payment.

Details of the Bitcoin Steakburger

The new burger features two steakburger patties, American cheese, pickles, onions, ketchup, and is distinguished by a bun adorned with the iconic Bitcoin logo. Customers can order it either solo or as part of a combo dubbed the “Bitcoin Meal,” which includes fries and a beverage.

Social Media Announcement

“Five months ago today, Steak ‘n Shake began accepting Bitcoin payments. In celebration, we are launching the Bitcoin Steakburger! Hurry to any Steak ‘n Shake and enjoy them while they last. Supplies are limited….just like Bitcoin.”

Engagement with the Cryptocurrency Community

This initiative is part of a larger strategy as Steak ‘n Shake has explored engaging with the Bitcoin community since early this year. In March, the franchise hinted at the possibility of Bitcoin transactions. By May, it had rolled out BTC payment options across all its locations, enabling over 100 million customers the chance to trade Bitcoin for burgers and milkshakes.

Impact on Sales and Future Plans

The move appears to have positively impacted the company’s second and third-quarter sales, with same-store sales rising significantly, which the franchise attributes partially to the enthusiastic participation of Bitcoin enthusiasts. Recently, the chain also engaged its audience of 468,000 followers on X to garner opinions on potentially accepting Ethereum as well, aiming to attract another segment of the crypto community.

However, in response to overwhelming support for Ethereum payments, the company reversed its decision after receiving backlash from Bitcoin advocates, publicly reaffirming their commitment to the Bitcoin ecosystem. A spokesperson for Steak ‘n Shake has not yet provided any comments regarding these developments.
