Warning from the Shiba Inu Community
A recent warning from the X account linked to the Shiba Inu community, known as Susbarium/Shibarium Trustwatch, has brought attention to a fraudulent scheme targeting holders of SHIB, BONE, and LEASH tokens. This scam has emerged on the X social media platform, specifically targeting individuals who have recently made transactions on ShibaSwap, the official decentralized exchange for the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
Details of the Scam
The scammers are luring victims with an enticing offer of nearly 500 million SHIB coins, claiming that holders must act quickly to claim their rewards before they expire. The deceptive post includes a dubious link and an image that purportedly displays a reward claim amounting to over $6,500, translating to approximately 449,671,393 SHIB.
Indicators of Fraud
The warning from Susbarium emphasizes that such tactics are typical of phishing scams. It outlines several indicators that suggest the post is fraudulent, including:
- The usual scare tactics that emphasize urgency, such as “claim ends soon.”
- The use of shortened URLs, which can obscure where the link actually leads, making it tough for users to authenticate the source.
- No announcements from any official Shiba Inu channels regarding such reward distributions.
Advice for the SHIB Community
To prevent falling victim to this scam, the SHIB community is advised to exercise caution. Users should:
- Refrain from clicking on any suspicious links found in emails or posts on social media.
- Avoid connecting their cryptocurrency wallets to unknown decentralized applications (dApps).
- Always rely on verified information through official Shiba Inu communication channels.
- Steer clear of Telegram groups or X accounts promising unexpected rewards, airdrops, or giveaways of cryptocurrency.
