New Lobbying Group for Zcash

A new lobbying group focused on Zcash has officially registered to influence U.S. cryptocurrency legislation. Known as Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ), this initiative is keen to shape the discourse surrounding privacy-focused digital currencies. The group filed its lobbying registration on October 1, with Divij Pandya serving as the primary lobbyist. Among the key topics on their agenda are the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and a pair of proposed tax regulations related to digital assets.

Background and Objectives

PGPZ emerged in June 2023 as a branch of the broader Pretty Good Policy for Crypto initiative, which was established in 2022 by Electric Coin Company—the creators of Zcash. Since its inception, the initiative has been proactive in policy discussions, notably organizing roundtables and a congressional briefing dedicated to encryption technology earlier this year.

Leadership and Vision

Paul Brigner, who is the founder of PGPZ and also holds the position of chief policy and regulatory officer at ZODL, emphasized the necessity of organized representation for Zcash. He noted that current policy decisions are crucial for determining the legal landscape for privacy-centric digital currencies.

“Our aim is to ensure that Zcash is visible, adequately represented, and protected during these policy discussions,”

Brigner stated.

Community Support

Furthermore, in a demonstration of community support, the Zcash Community Grants recently allocated $750,000 to assist PGPZ in its inaugural year of operations. As the cryptocurrency sector evolves, this lobbying group represents a concerted effort by advocates to ensure the interests of Zcash and similar technologies are effectively communicated in Washington.
