Bitdeer AI’s Strategic Agreement

Bitdeer AI has entered into a significant five-year agreement that is anticipated to yield around $400 million, leveraging about 50% of its A102 data center’s capacity in Malaysia prior to the facility becoming operational. The partnership, disclosed on a Wednesday, involves an unnamed client, identified by Bitdeer as having “high credit quality.” This arrangement will begin contributing to revenue in the first quarter of 2027, coinciding with the initiation of services under the contract.

Minimizing Unallocated Capacity

This strategic move allows Bitdeer to secure a customer before the facility is energized, thus minimizing unallocated capacity once operations commence at A102. While specifics about the pricing framework of the contract have not been disclosed, the deal underlines Bitdeer’s commitment to establishing a foothold in the AI market while it continues to enhance its data center capacities in multiple regions.

Expansion in AI Cloud Services

Previously, Bitdeer has been expanding its AI cloud services in Malaysia, with reported annual recurring revenue from its AI segment reaching $69 million as of June. The company aims to boost its AI cloud data center capacity to 350 megawatts by early 2028, making this new Malaysian contract a cornerstone of its broader infrastructure growth, which encompasses cloud computing and dedicated AI contracts.

Transition from Bitcoin Mining

Originating from Bitcoin mining, Bitdeer has progressively channeled resources into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. The company retains a large-scale mining operation with sites spanning the United States, Bhutan, Norway, and Ethiopia, while also innovating in AI and cloud services through conversions and infrastructure agreements.

Recent Developments and Market Reaction

In a related development earlier this month, Bitdeer finalized a 16-year lease for 121 megawatts of AI computing capacity at its Tydal campus in Norway, projecting a staggering $4.7 billion in revenue for that deal alone. This capacity will utilize NVIDIA GPUs to support a leading AI laboratory, implemented through a phased approach with operations expected to kick off by late 2026.

As competition intensifies among Bitcoin miners transitioning to AI, Bitdeer’s recent contract drew favorable reactions in the market, with its share price appreciating by around 7% on the day of the announcement and further rising nearly 6% in pre-market trading the following day. Bitdeer shares were trading at approximately $10.20 mid-day Thursday UTC.

Financial Performance

In its recent quarterly results, Bitdeer reported total revenues of $228.8 million, an increase from $155.6 million a year prior, though it also faced a net loss of $92.3 million for the quarter. The firm retains a robust financial position with $496.3 million in cash and equivalents as of June 30, underscoring its readiness for continued expansion in both the mining and AI sectors.
