Cross River Bank and Ripple Collaboration

On Thursday, Cross River Bank announced a strategic collaboration with Ripple, aiming to facilitate smoother financial transactions for businesses using Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin, RLUSD. This integration will allow companies to avoid the complexities of developing their own blockchain infrastructure, as Cross River Bank will incorporate RLUSD directly into its existing banking services.

Significance of the Partnership

The partnership is significant as it positions Cross River Bank as a vital conduit between the realm of cryptocurrency and the traditional financial sector, often referred to as TradFi. Unlike many mainstream banks that have hesitated to engage with crypto firms due to regulatory challenges, Cross River has innovated solutions that provide digital asset companies with essential banking functionalities.

Banking-as-a-Service Model

Cross River’s Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) model has enabled influential crypto platforms like Coinbase and Circle to seamlessly connect with various payment networks for deposits, withdrawals, and money transfers. Adam Goller, overseeing fintech banking at Cross River, highlighted the benefits of this new collaboration, stating that it would empower users to effortlessly switch between U.S. dollars and RLUSD, conduct international transactions, and manage their finances around the clock.

“Businesses would no longer need to juggle multiple service providers to execute global transactions,”

Goller emphasized. Thanks to the partnership with Ripple, this process is simplified, enabling access to a suite of services—including bank transfers, Automated Clearing House (ACH) payments, wire transfers, and RLUSD transactions—through a unified platform.

Limitations and Advancements

However, it’s essential to note a key limitation; these services are currently restricted to a select number of states within the U.S. Nevertheless, this partnership marks a significant advancement by incorporating Ripple’s RLUSD into the framework of a regulated U.S. banking institution. Through Cross River, companies can now leverage both blockchain payments and traditional financial services without the burden of managing their own blockchain.

“Cross River is leading the way in implementing efficient practices by integrating RLUSD and the low-cost, rapid settlement features of the XRP Ledger into its banking platform,”

articulated Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX.
