Deutsche Bank’s Strategic Move into Crypto Custody Services
In a strategic move to tap into the booming digital asset market, Deutsche Bank is set to introduce its crypto custody services in Germany, with plans for an expansion into key Asian financial hubs by 2027. This initiative is in response to the burgeoning digital asset economy, which currently sees vast amounts of capital, particularly in stablecoins, in circulation.
Growth Targets and Offerings
Gerald Podobnik, co-head of Deutsche Bank’s corporate banking division, highlighted the importance of this expansion for the bank’s anticipated annual growth target of 8% in this sector by 2028, according to a report by Reuters.
Initially, the bank’s custody offerings will include support for major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), as well as several stablecoins including Circle’s USDC, EURC, and AllUnity’s EURAU. In line with regulatory requirements, Deutsche Bank expects to obtain the necessary approvals for these services under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulations (MiCA) by October.
Recent Developments
Recent actions have shown a commitment to this direction; just as Deutsche Bank received authorization from the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) on Monday, it was also revealed that a partnership with cryptocurrency infrastructure provider Taurus was established in September to facilitate its custody services.
Although inquiries have been made to the bank regarding the specific Asian markets they intend to target, no information has been disclosed as of yet.
