Crypto.com to End Consumer Application Services in Hong Kong Amid Regulatory Shifts
Crypto.com will withdraw its consumer app in Hong Kong by February 2027 due to regulatory changes, while pursuing licensing for its institutional exchange.

Crypto.com to Cease Consumer Application in Hong Kong
Starting February 1, 2027, Crypto.com will cease the operations of its consumer application in Hong Kong, while it continues to seek regulatory approval for its institutional trading platform. The company's decision was confirmed through a statement made to Bloomberg, where it stated that notifications have been sent to impacted customers, providing guidance on how to close their accounts and retrieve their funds.
The notification highlighted that the move stems from alterations in local regulations, as reported by HK01, a regional news service.
Management and Licensing Efforts
The consumer application is managed by Foris DAX MT Limited, whereas Foris DAX HK Limited is actively pursuing a license for a virtual asset trading platform in Hong Kong. This effort is underscored by their application for a VATP license, submitted on February 9, 2024.
As per the public register maintained by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), nearly three years have passed since the application was submitted, yet Foris DAX HK Limited remains in a provisional "deemed-to-be-licensed" status, which does not equate to complete regulatory approval.
Future Prospects and Regulatory Landscape
In contrast, Crypto.com is committed to advancing its application for the institutional-grade Crypto.com Exchange. Cointelegraph made attempts to reach Crypto.com for further insights but did not receive a response by the time of this report.
This development comes amidst broader initiatives in Hong Kong to enhance trading regulations and explore stablecoin trials, reflective of the city’s evolving landscape in virtual asset management.
