Intercontinental Exchange and OKX Collaboration

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), known for its ownership of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), is joining forces with cryptocurrency exchange powerhouse OKX to launch a new venture focused on digital asset and tokenization technologies, as revealed in an announcement on Monday. This collaboration is currently pending regulatory approval, but it has the potential to provide OKX’s international clientele with access to tokenized shares from the NYSE and futures products available through ICE.

Insights from ICE and OKX Leadership

Trabue Bland, who serves as the senior vice president of futures exchanges at ICE, expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing that it represents a critical advancement in the foundational infrastructure expected to shape global finance in the coming years. Bland mentioned the firm’s desire to expand its product range to cater to the approximately 120 million retail traders on the OKX platform.

“The evolution of financial markets hinges on the balance of innovation and regulatory measures,”

noted Andrew Cuomo, former New York Attorney General and Governor, now a co-chair of the venture. He has been collaborating with OKX since 2023 and expressed a keen interest in the transformative potential of blockchain technology, particularly in democratizing financial access for marginalized communities.

Future Directions and Objectives

While the precise strategies and focus areas for tokenization and blockchain within this joint initiative were not specified, a spokesperson for OKX informed Fortune that one of the primary objectives will be the tokenization of equities listed on the NYSE. This latest venture builds on ICE’s earlier investment in OKX, where it acquired a minority stake in the crypto exchange valued at $25 billion. Before this announcement, ICE and OKX had already collaborated to offer crypto-based perpetual futures contracts for oil targeted at investors outside the United States.
