Impact of Binance Breach: Standard Chartered Predicts Rise in Decentralized Trading
The Binance hack may boost the transition to decentralized exchanges, potentially elevating Uniswap's UNI token value to $100 by 2030, says Standard Chartered.

Impact of Binance Breach on Decentralized Trading
Geoffrey Kendrick, the global head of digital assets research at Standard Chartered, indicated that the recent breach impacting Binance might facilitate a transition towards decentralized trading systems. This incident has simultaneously bolstered his projection for Uniswap's UNI token to reach $100 by the year 2030.
Re-assessing Engagement with Uniswap
In correspondence with Cointelegraph, Kendrick articulated how the Binance incident could enhance the proportional trading volume on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) compared to centralized exchanges (CEXs). He suggested that investors would benefit from re-assessing their engagement with Uniswap, highlighting its resilience as it has never been compromised, unlike Binance, the largest centralized exchange.
Trading Activity Trends
Kendrick noted that the ratio of trading activity between DEXs and CEXs saw a slight increase, standing at 23.5% in Q2 2026 compared to 21.4% in Q1 2026, according to findings from CoinGecko. He maintains a steadfast optimism for Uniswap’s future, reiterating his $100 target for UNI by 2030; however, he conceded that the implications of the Binance breach may suggest his prediction could be conservative.
Future of Decentralized Finance
This aligns with Standard Chartered's earlier analysis, forecasting that the total value locked in decentralized finance (DeFi) could hit $2.7 trillion by the end of the decade, with Uniswap potentially playing a pivotal role in trading tokenized assets.
Market Reactions and Price Declines
On a broader scale, Kendrick anticipated that the market might experience further price declines in the aftermath of the Binance incident. Following reports of the hack, cryptocurrency markets displayed downward trends, leading to an over 8% drop in the Binance Coin (BNB) within 24 hours and Bitcoin hovering around $77,000.
Various DeFi tokens were also negatively affected, with Aave's token (AAVE) declining by 11.3% to $118.54 and Uniswap’s token (UNI) falling 10.4% to $6.48, per CoinGecko metrics. Kendrick added that clarity on the situation would only emerge once assets are unfrozen and more comprehensive details about the breach are disclosed.
