New Regulatory Framework for Cryptocurrency in the UK
Starting from October 25, 2027, a new regulatory framework for cryptocurrency businesses will be implemented in the UK. To ensure compliance, companies are encouraged to begin preparing in advance, as the application process for necessary authorizations will open on September 30, 2026.

This guidance follows the FCA’s thorough efforts in gearing up for the introduction of the new framework, which includes offering extensive pre-application consultations and conducting informational webinars to assist firms in their transition. Additionally, the UK Government has enacted specific, targeted amendments to existing laws, which provide some limited exemptions and offer greater clarity for certain service providers in the technical sector; however, these changes are unlikely to impact most cryptocurrency businesses.
It’s important for these firms to utilize the current guidance in their preparation for authorization. Furthermore, in October, the FCA intends to consult on additional updates to this guidance that will reflect recent legal adjustments.
