Ripple’s IPO Considerations

In a recent update regarding Ripple’s potential initial public offering (IPO), CEO Brad Garlinghouse has adopted a more open approach compared to earlier assertions against going public. During his address at the 2026 Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Garlinghouse reflected on the company’s history of operating privately for an extended period but noted that its perspective on an IPO is shifting towards a more ambivalent stance.

Historical Context and Legal Challenges

The discussion surrounding Ripple’s IPO prospects dates back to early 2020 when Garlinghouse anticipated that a public offering within the cryptocurrency sector was plausible in the near future. However, progress was severely hampered by the lawsuit initiated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which complicated plans for a public listing.

During the Consensus 2021 conference, Garlinghouse expressed optimism about the company eventually becoming public, stating that the potential for Ripple to be listed was considerably high. Yet, he emphasized the necessity of resolving legal issues with the SEC before moving forward with an IPO.

Recent Developments

The SEC’s lawsuit represented a significant barrier, and despite a favorable outcome for Ripple in that legal battle, Garlinghouse maintained that proceeding with a U.S. IPO was not an immediate focus. Come March 2025, when the SEC announced it would not appeal the ruling, Garlinghouse mentioned that Ripple was finally in a position to contemplate an IPO.

This sentiment was echoed by Ripple’s President Monica Long, though she also conveyed in April 2025 that the company was not pursuing an IPO at that moment, attributing this decision to their solid financial standing. By November of the same year, Long reiterated that there were “no plans or timelines” for an IPO on Ripple’s part.

Current Outlook

As of now, however, it appears that Ripple is at least considering the option of going public as part of its future strategies.
