Ross Gerber’s Shift in Perspective on Bitcoin
In a surprising turn of events, Ross Gerber, widely recognized as a staunch supporter of Tesla and an early Bitcoin enthusiast, has voiced his skepticism about Bitcoin’s future, primarily attributing his concerns to Michael Saylor, co-founder of the business intelligence firm Strategy. Gerber articulated his disillusionment during a recent post on the platform X, stating:
“Saylor kinda makes me over Bitcoin. Hard to take it seriously anymore.”
Criticism of Saylor’s Strategies
Saylor’s firm, which is known for amassing one of the largest corporate holdings of Bitcoin in the world, has faced scrutiny, especially as Gerber has criticized its use of debt and capital-market strategies to fund additional Bitcoin purchases. The situation escalated when Strategy made headlines for selling portions of their Bitcoin assets, prompting Gerber to declare:
“Unlike Saylor, I’ve never sold my bitcoin.”
This statement showcased his commitment to holding the cryptocurrency. Gerber further expressed his discontent with Saylor’s contradictory approach to Bitcoin, questioning the rationale behind the company’s operations:
“Interesting… So do as I say, not what my public company does… buying Bitcoin high and selling low is a ‘company’? This thing is unraveling like the sand castle that it is.”
Concerns Over Bitcoin’s Future
Earlier in July, Gerber criticized Saylor for allegedly undermining the cryptocurrency that has been his focus for years, commenting:
“LOL. At some point this whole joke will end… amazing the guys who built bitcoin are the same ones destroying it.”
His skepticism did not stop there. In late June, he raised doubts about Strategy’s business model, sarcastically asking:
“Is Saylor’s silly Bitcoin gig finally up?”
He referenced the company’s decision to sell Bitcoin at a loss. Gerber connected Bitcoin’s recent dips in performance directly to Saylor’s market influence, noting that Saylor’s claims of never selling Bitcoin contradicted with the market’s downward slide, which seemed to stem from the decisions made by larger players like Saylor. He alleged:
“Saylor says he’ll never sell bitcoin. Then rug pulls the market. It goes lower. Creating the negative cycle of liquidation of all the speculators, all because the big players are so greedy they can’t seem to steal enough when times are good.”
Gerber’s Investment Strategy
Having actively engaged with Bitcoin since at least 2014, Gerber has expressed his views on the cryptocurrency market for years, previously labeling it as an inflation hedge and a digital equivalent of gold. Nonetheless, reports indicated a shift in his investment strategy when, in March 2025, he decided to divest from a significant portion of his Bitcoin holdings, redirecting some funds into gold instead, as detailed by Business Insider.
