Cybercriminal Tactics on Steam Workshop
A recent report by Kaspersky revealed alarming tactics employed by cybercriminals to spread malware via the Steam Workshop platform. The attackers have been disguising malicious downloads of Wallpaper Engine as animated desktop wallpapers, with many featuring popular female anime characters.

According to Kaspersky, this method exploits the platform’s ability to run executable programs directly on Windows machines, thereby allowing malicious software to masquerade as harmless content.
Infected Packages on the Rise
The research team has discovered numerous infected wallpaper packages circulating through Steam Workshop, some of which have gained thousands of downloads.
