Introduction of a New ETF

BlackRock Canada has introduced a novel exchange-traded fund (ETF) that aims to simplify investment for Canadians by merging a substantial equity portfolio with a small allocation in Bitcoin. This new product, known as the iShares Equity + Bitcoin ETF Portfolio, debuted on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the ticker IBQT on August 10.

Fund Structure and Allocation

The fund is designed to distribute 97% of its assets into equities while allocating 3% to Bitcoin, allowing investors exposure to both sectors through one unified financial instrument. BlackRock has structured this ETF to invest mainly in other iShares ETFs, which cover a broad spectrum of stock markets including Canadian, U.S., international, and emerging markets.

Bitcoin investment in this ETF is facilitated through BlackRock’s Canadian iShares Bitcoin ETF, referenced as IBIT, which has been available on Cboe Canada since January 2025.

Investment Benefits

The fund’s structure is intended to provide a way for investors to gain both diversified stock exposure and a foothold in the cryptocurrency market within a single listed security. Additionally, the annual management fee for IBQT is set at 0.22%, which also encompasses the fees from the underlying ETFs.

Company Statement

In a statement regarding this launch, Steven Leong, who oversees Canada’s product line and the iShares segment at BlackRock, highlighted the firm’s dedication to offering affordable, streamlined investment options for Canadians.
