Blockchain.com Receives Full VASP Custody License

Blockchain.com has officially received its full Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) custody license from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), significantly enhancing its regulatory framework for cryptocurrency operations. This achievement, finalized on July 22, allows the firm to provide a variety of regulated services, including custodial solutions and exchanges between digital currencies and fiat money, marking a notable upgrade from a previously granted conditional license received in December 2025.

New Services and Strategic Focus

The newly confirmed license enables Blockchain.com to offer both institutional and retail services securely from the Cayman Islands, with a pronounced focus on institutional custody and staking capabilities. This move aligns with the company’s strategic efforts to solidify its foothold globally. Recently, Blockchain.com has also attained a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license in Europe, along with full registration with the UK Financial Conduct Authority, according to co-CEO Lane Kasselman. He emphasized the importance of robust regulation for the sustainable advancement of digital assets.

Operational Developments

Prior to this official license, Blockchain.com operated under a conditional VASP registration in the Cayman Islands since May 2022. The recent development signifies not just a regulatory win but a comprehensive upgrade to the company’s operational framework within the jurisdiction.

In addition to coining its local regulatory status, Blockchain.com is also growing its workforce in the Cayman Islands through a partnership with TechCayman, which was revealed in June. This collaboration aims to assist with operational setup and local hiring while integrating the firm further into the technological landscape of the region.

Company Background and Future Initiatives

Founded in 2011, Blockchain.com has facilitated over $1.1 trillion in transactions, catering to more than 43 million verified users globally. The latest licensing achievement comes amidst a host of recent initiatives, including a draft registration statement submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in May for potential public offerings, and the introduction of perpetual futures trading within its non-custodial DeFi wallet earlier this April. Notably, Blockchain.com is also expanding its geographic footprint, having launched retail operations in Ghana and actively engaging users in Nigeria, one of its fastest-growing markets.
