CobraBitcoin Raises Security Concerns
CobraBitcoin, a well-known figure in the Bitcoin community, has raised concerns about the increasing security risks posed by advanced artificial intelligence technologies. With AI models becoming significantly more proficient in tasks such as coding, identifying vulnerabilities, and executing autonomous cyber operations, the potential for significant exploits in the cryptocurrency sphere is greater than ever.
Advancements in AI Technology
CobraBitcoin is particularly vigilant following the release of superior models like OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1, both of which are capable of executing complex software engineering tasks more effectively than their earlier versions.
Much of the underlying technology of Bitcoin operates on open-source principles, which allows these intelligent systems to analyze the code at an unprecedented speed, possibly uncovering bugs and vulnerabilities that human experts might overlook. OpenAI claims that Astra is the first widely available AI model to achieve the “Critical” cybersecurity capability level, according to its Preparedness Framework. This classification signifies that Astra has the potential to uncover previously unknown security weaknesses and devise novel exploitation methods without needing continuous human oversight.
Notably, it attained a flawless score of 100% on the ExploitBench, a benchmark for evaluating the translation of vulnerabilities into actionable exploits, while its predecessor scored just 78.5%.
Furthermore, on the more challenging ExploitGym benchmark, Astra achieved a 42.4% success rate in developing exploits. In contrast, Claude Fable 5.1 from Anthropic is engineered specifically for intricate coding tasks that span extensive codebases and timeframes.

The cryptocurrency sector has already witnessed the capabilities of AI in vulnerability scouting. For instance, a serious loophole was identified by security researcher Taylor Hornby on May 29 in Zcash’s Orchard shielded pool, which could have enabled the fraudulent creation of limitless counterfeit ZEC without detection. This incident prompted Zcash developers to launch an urgent coordinated response.
In light of various security incidents, including a recent issue with COLDCARD wallets, a collective of Bitcoin developers and researchers established the Bitcoin Red Team. This group is utilizing AI technologies, coupled with human oversight, to enhance security measures across the vast open-source Bitcoin ecosystem.
