Ether.fi Announces New Features for Decentralized Finance
Ether.fi, a leading player in the decentralized finance sector focused on Ethereum staking, announced significant new features for its self-custodial application on Thursday. Among the updates, users will now have the ability to trade tokenized versions of stocks, precious metals, and cryptocurrency, broadening the scope of investment options available through the platform.
Integration with Aave and New Fiat Accounts
The app integrates with the decentralized lending protocol Aave, operating on Optimism, which is a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum. This integration allows users to lend their assets, secure loans against their investment portfolios without needing to liquidate their assets, and utilize the liquidity generated through these activities. Additionally, Ether.fi will now offer fiat accounts that enable users to manage deposits and withdrawals globally.
Insights from the CEO
Mike Silagadze, the founder and CEO of Ether.fi, shared insights on the launch, stating that the platform will initially support a select range of existing assets alongside select tokenized stocks and gold. Notable assets available include major cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Bitcoin, as well as Ether.fi’s own governance token, ETHFI. Silagadze indicated plans for rapidly expanding the collateral options available on the platform.
User Verification and Incentives
To access fiat accounts and utilize the payment card, users must complete necessary identity verification processes. Timing for deposits and withdrawals may vary. Moreover, the platform is introducing features like automated buybacks of the ETHFI token and offering a 3% cashback incentive for purchases made with the newly introduced payment card. Currently, Ether.fi boasts a community exceeding 500,000 users and records an impressive $2 billion in annual transaction volume.
Bridging the Gap in Decentralized Finance
Silagadze emphasized that the new portfolio-backed loans and the inclusion of tokenized real-world assets are designed to attract individuals unfamiliar with decentralized finance, stating,
“The opportunity to leverage an entire portfolio for borrowing and to incorporate real-world asset transactions is likely to resonate well with users.”
While the new trading features for tokenized stocks and metals will not be available in the United States and certain other regions, the broadened service offerings aim to provide users with a comprehensive alternative to conventional banking systems. Silagadze concluded,
“With Ether.fi, we aim to bridge the divide between decentralized finance and the financial services people use daily, striving to replace traditional banks with tools previously accessible only to high-net-worth individuals and institutions. This exemplifies the true potential of DeFi and self-custody.”
