MetaMask Responds to Security Situation

In a recent statement, MetaMask announced its proactive response to a security situation affecting part of its infrastructure. As a cautious measure, the platform is removing its validators from the staking operations in the Lido protocol. Despite the incident, MetaMask has reassured users that no immediate risks to its wallets have been identified.

Ongoing Investigation and Collaboration

The update released on Wednesday highlighted an ongoing internal investigation, with MetaMask collaborating with external security experts. While specifics of the security concern remain undisclosed, the company emphasized that it is taking necessary steps to ensure the integrity of its services.

Withdrawal of Ethereum Validators

Separately, Lido revealed that MetaMask Staking began withdrawing its Ethereum validators from the Lido ecosystem, with the final exits expected to complete by October 7. This step could potentially involve lost rewards and downtime penalties during the validator exits.

Developer Will Shannon from Lido Finance indicated that the ETH withdrawn from the MetaMask-operated validators would gradually return to the protocol. However, this process, which includes an exit, withdrawal, and subsequent re-entry, could take up to 45 days due to an extensive entry queue.
