NIP Group Expands Bitcoin Mining Operations
NIP Group, the publicly traded parent entity of the renowned esports team Ninjas in Pyjamas, is intensifying its bitcoin mining capabilities through a substantial hardware acquisition. This strategic move marks a significant step towards its goal of evolving into a digital infrastructure enterprise.
Hardware Acquisition Details
Announced on Tuesday, the Abu Dhabi-based company confirmed it would be acquiring bitcoin mining machines capable of generating a collective hashrate of roughly 4.47 exahash per second (EH/s), boosting its anticipated total computing power to nearly 14 EH/s.
Upon completion, NIP Group’s bitcoin mining efforts could yield around 195 BTC monthly, equivalent to approximately $16 million at current market rates. However, actual output will be influenced by various elements such as network difficulty, overall hashrate, and operational conditions, potentially positioning NIP Group among the largest publicly traded bitcoin miners based on their computing capacity.
Financial Aspects of the Acquisition
In accordance with the acquisition agreement, NIP Group plans to issue up to 247.1 million Class A ordinary shares to the sellers in exchange for the bitcoin mining hardware, which is valued at approximately $27.3 million. Notably, the machines are already functional and located within hosting facilities, allowing the company to commence bitcoin generation immediately following the transaction’s completion.
Strategic Growth and Future Plans
This latest hardware purchase is part of an ongoing strategy initiated in July 2025, which saw NIP Group establish its first mining operations with a computative capacity of 3.11 EH/s. By November 2025, plans were announced to increase this capacity to 11.3 EH/s. By early 2026, the company reported a bitcoin mining capability of 9.66 EH/s, having mined 151.4 BTC between September and November of the previous year.
Traditionally recognized for its esports ventures, particularly in competitive titles such as Counter-Strike 2 and League of Legends, NIP Group is now leveraging bitcoin mining as an alternative revenue stream to finance its growth beyond gaming. In a statement to Decrypt made in November 2025, Co-CEO Hicham Chahine underscored the company’s aim to accumulate bitcoin while periodically selling portions of their holdings to cover operational costs and foster business expansion.
Additionally, he noted ambitions to channel mining revenue into artificial intelligence, gaming innovations, and the company’s fan token ecosystem known as DOJO.
Broader Digital Infrastructure Strategy
This acquisition fits within a broader digital infrastructure strategy aimed at boosting not only mining activities but potentially exploring AI and high-performance computing applications. Chahine expressed enthusiasm for this ongoing process, stating,
“We are rapidly executing on our digital infrastructure strategy with this third tranche of mining asset acquisitions.”
It’s also worth noting that this major expansion primarily utilizes equity issuance for financing, which while facilitating equipment acquisition without immediate cash outlay, could lead to dilution of shares for existing investors. The acquisition agreement is set to close within ten business days after satisfying standard conditions, with the deal dated September 24.
