The Rise of Shiba Inu (SHIB) in the UAE

The Shiba Inu (SHIB) cryptocurrency is making significant strides in the United Arab Emirates’ economic landscape as it expands into new sectors. Recently, Dubai Duty Free, a prominent retailer at the airport, began accepting SHIB alongside a selection of 29 other cryptocurrencies through a newly adopted payment gateway powered by Crypto.com Pay.

New Payment Options for Travelers

Customers can now use their digital assets at stores located in both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), as well as make purchases via the retailer’s dedicated website.

This development comes on the heels of Emirates Airlines launching cryptocurrency payments for flight bookings, also utilizing the Crypto.com Pay platform.

This strategic move enhances SHIB’s presence within the UAE, illustrating a growing acceptance of digital currencies in mainstream commerce.

Broader Cryptocurrency Acceptance

In addition to SHIB, the new payment system allows for transactions using a variety of major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and Dogecoin (DOGE), thereby broadening the appeal and usability of digital assets in duty-free shopping.

Regulatory Compliance and Market Safety

It’s worth noting that Dubai’s robust infrastructure is deliberately designed to mitigate market risks for enterprises. The duty-free shops will not directly deal with cryptocurrencies at their cash registers; instead, transactions can only be processed by verified UAE residents. When a customer opts to pay using the Crypto.com Pay app, their chosen cryptocurrency is converted to UAE dirhams (AED) instantly at the current exchange rate, ensuring that retailers only receive the local fiat currency.

Dubai’s Cashless Future

This push towards enhanced cryptocurrency payment acceptance comes as part of Dubai’s D33 government strategy, which aims to transition up to 90% of all transactions into a cashless format. The successful integration of these digital payment systems was made possible after Crypto.com obtained an official license from the Central Bank of the UAE, ensuring that all retail cryptocurrency activities at the airports are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
