Stand With Crypto Endorses Pro-Crypto Candidates
In the wake of the U.S. Senate’s recent failure to pass the pivotal CLARITY Act, an advocacy group named Stand With Crypto (SWC) has announced its endorsement of a broad array of pro-crypto candidates for the upcoming midterm elections. This organization, which promotes the interests of the cryptocurrency community, aims to support bipartisan congressional candidates who have championed important crypto-related legislation.
Key Endorsements
Notably, among those receiving SWC’s endorsement is Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio, who is challenging incumbent Sherrod Brown, a Democrat known for his skepticism towards digital currencies. Additionally, the group is backing Ashley Hinson, a Republican from Iowa, and Chris Pappas, a Democrat from New Hampshire.
In total, Stand With Crypto has put its weight behind over 30 current members of the House of Representatives, recognizing their support for legislation aimed at establishing a comprehensive framework for digital assets. This includes endorsements for Representatives Shomari Figures (D-AL-02) and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-01), along with candidates Derek Merrin (R-OH-09) and Janelle Stelson (D-PA-10).
Response to Legislative Challenges
The emergence of these endorsements closely follows the Senate’s inability to garner the necessary 60 votes for the CLARITY Act, which was designed to provide clarity on the regulation of cryptocurrency markets. The bill, deemed crucial for the industry, received only 49 votes in favor and faced significant opposition, with many Democratic senators voting against it despite promises from their Republican colleagues to make concessions.
Mason Lynaugh, the executive director of Stand With Crypto, expressed the organization’s determination to shift its focus toward ensuring the election of pro-crypto policymakers. “Following the Senate’s recent failure to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, our community of over three million advocates is dedicated to identifying candidates who will prioritize the establishment of clear regulatory guidelines for digital assets,” he stated.
Strategic Investments and Bipartisan Support
Further, Stand With Crypto plans to increase its investment in advertising for six targeted House races, including the campaign for Democratic Representative Don Davis from North Carolina. Importantly, all candidates endorsed by SWC voted in favor of the CLARITY Act when it passed in the House last year.
The organization’s strategy reflects a balanced approach, with endorsements distributed nearly evenly between Democrats and Republicans—highlighting its commitment to bipartisan support for financial innovation and the potential of Web3 technologies. Incumbents and candidates who have publicly endorsed measures like the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21) also feature prominently in SWC’s endorsements, signaling a clear alignment on advancing the future of cryptocurrency regulation in the U.S.
Conclusion
The fate of the CLARITY Act highlights ongoing tensions in Congress regarding cryptocurrency legislation, and the recent developments could play a significant role in shaping the political landscape for digital asset regulation as the midterm elections approach.
