Introduction to StableFund
A new financial initiative, branded as StableFund, aims to enhance asset-backed lending across fintech platforms in over 60 countries, leveraging the infrastructure of USDT.
Collaboration and Funding
This venture comes from a collaboration between Tether and Fasanara Capital, who have pooled $400 million to kickstart the fund, with aspirations to attract up to $3 billion from institutional investors.
Focus and Target Market
The focus of StableFund is on providing short-duration loans secured by assets, primarily targeting small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and consumer lending, which may include areas such as trade receivables and supply chain financing.
Management and Operations
Fasanara Capital, a significant player in the asset management arena based in London, will oversee the investment strategy for the fund, while Tether will facilitate the financial operations, sourcing USDT-related funding opportunities and managing the transfer of funds both on-chain and off-chain.
Tether’s Financial Performance
Tether has recently solidified its status as a powerhouse within the crypto sector, reporting an impressive net operating profit of around $1.5 billion in the second quarter, driven largely by its investments in US Treasury and repurchase agreements. The firm disclosed assets totaling $187.8 billion, complemented by a reserve buffer of $4.11 billion as of the end of June.
Strategic Investments
Tether’s financial footprint extends beyond its stablecoin operations, illustrated by various strategic investments including a $20 million stake in Argentine neobank Ualá, as well as holdings in the Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin and the renowned Italian football club Juventus. Additionally, in March, Tether led a $50 million financing round in Eight Sleep, a company specializing in AI-driven sleep technology.
