Visa Partners with Zerohash to Enhance Stablecoin Integration

Visa is furthering its foray into the stablecoin space through a strategic partnership with Zerohash, a notable player in crypto infrastructure. This collaboration will enable select clients using Visa Direct to pre-fund their accounts with stablecoins for payout transactions. Announced on Wednesday, Zerohash emphasized that this innovation will enhance payment options available through Visa Direct, which is recognized as a prominent money movement network.

“By integrating stablecoin functionalities at the foundational network level, we are significantly accelerating global adoption,” said Edward Woodford, Zerohash’s founder and CEO.

This groundbreaking integration empowers businesses to finance their Visa Direct accounts using stablecoins, facilitating liquidity management beyond traditional banking hours. Moreover, beneficiaries of these transactions can choose to receive payments in stablecoins rather than their local currencies.

Zerohash’s Expansion and Visa’s Broader Engagement

Zerohash, which has been providing cryptocurrency infrastructure since 2017, is actively expanding its operations. Earlier this year, the company pursued a national trust bank charter aimed at enhancing its custody and settlement services. Notably, in July, it played a key role in supporting Morgan Stanley’s launch of trading for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana on E Trade.

The latest initiative by Visa is part of a broader trend in the conglomerate’s engagement with the stablecoin ecosystem. Earlier in 2023, Visa initiated a pilot program in January with BVNK to explore stablecoin prefunding and payouts on the Visa Direct platform. Additionally, in July, the company unveiled the Visa Stablecoin Platform, designed to equip banks and fintech firms with the necessary tools to issue, manage, and transfer stablecoins smartly, while seamlessly integrating them into their current treasury and payment infrastructures.

Transformative Potential of Stablecoins

Mark Nelsen, Visa’s global head of product, highlighted the transformative potential of stablecoins, stating,

“These digital currencies are paving the way for expedited and more adaptable money movement, especially in cross-border transactions. Collaborating with Zerohash enables us to extend stablecoin functionalities to our clientele in a scalable manner, ensuring reliability and interoperability with established financial systems.”
