Coinbase Suspends Eight Cryptocurrency Trading Pairs

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing its core market operations, Coinbase has announced the suspension of eight cryptocurrency trading pairs, effective September 15. This decision is part of the exchange’s ongoing effort to streamline liquidity and focus more on its active trading markets. The trading pairs affected include:

  • ANKR-EUR
  • BAT-BTC
  • BAT-ETH
  • COMP-BTC
  • FIL-BTC
  • GRT-BTC
  • JASMY-USDT
  • YFI-BTC

Transition to Limit-Only Mode

Ahead of this shift, Coinbase has transitioned these eight trading pairs to limit-only mode, allowing users to place or cancel limit orders, though market orders will not be processed during this period. Importantly, the underlying cryptocurrencies—such as ANKR, BAT, COMP, FIL, GRT, JASMY, and YFI—will remain available for trading against USD in supported regions on Coinbase Advanced Trade.

Impact on BAT and Market Trends

Among the impacted trading pairs, BAT experiences significant changes as both its BTC and ETH pairs are being discontinued. This move aligns with a broader trend observed throughout this year at Coinbase, where the exchange has systematically reviewed its market offerings.

Previous Trading Halts

Previously, on August 6, the platform halted trading for six additional non-USD pairs, including LSETH-ETH and MINA-EUR, citing similar reasons aimed at maintaining market health. This is not the first instance of Coinbase adjusting its trading pairs; a significant cleanup also took place in May when several other trading pairs were suspended, like APT-USDT and SAND-USDT.

Delisting of Certain Assets

Coinbase has also taken steps to remove certain assets entirely from trading, as seen last month with the complete delisting of coins such as Idex (IDEX) and Loopring (LRC) after evaluating whether these assets complied with the exchange’s listing criteria.
