Robbery Incident in Nongprue, Thailand
In a daring assault in Nongprue, Thailand, three assailants armed with firearms are reported to have robbed a foreign national of over $800,000 in cryptocurrency, along with cash and three high-end watches. This latest incident of violent robbery unfolded at a luxurious home located near Pattaya.
Details of the Assault
The perpetrators, believed to be of Chinese descent, invaded the gated community in the early hours of Tuesday, around 3:30 a.m., using a ladder to access the property.
Upon breaking into the victim’s bedroom, the attackers restrained him at gunpoint, compelling him to reveal the contents of a safe, which included both cash and valuables. The victim, identified only as a Chinese expat holding Turkish citizenship, was forced to transfer cryptocurrency worth approximately $820,000 to a wallet belonging to one of the suspects, who immediately liquidated the assets after the crime.
Aftermath and Investigation
After the ordeal, the victim managed to escape and promptly alerted local law enforcement. The police have launched an investigation spearheaded by Police Region 2, with progress reported by Police Lieutenant General Wasan Techa-akrakesom. Authorities have begun tracking digital trails connected to the sold cryptocurrency and have also recovered the vehicle that the attackers abandoned, which was captured in CCTV footage the day prior to the robbery.
Notably, the police are yet to confirm whether the victim was specifically targeted due to his cryptocurrency assets or if the attackers discovered his holdings during the home invasion.
Growing Trend of Cryptocurrency-Related Crimes
This incident highlights a growing trend of ‘wrench attacks’, where criminals target cryptocurrency holders through intimidation and violence.
According to blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis, over $30 million was reported stolen through similar attacks in the first half of 2026. As the popularity of cryptocurrency rises, so do the risks of such violent crimes, underscoring concerns related to security for individuals involved in digital asset markets.
This latest robbery adds to a series of alarming incidents involving cryptocurrency figures, marking a significant issue that authorities are now being forced to confront more aggressively.
