Funding Announcement

Meanwhile, a life insurance company that specializes in Bitcoin offerings and has the support of venture capitalist Sam Altman, recently announced that it has secured $37.5 million in funding led by Bain Capital Crypto. This latest injection of capital elevates the company’s total fundraising efforts to over $180 million, reflecting its active expansion into various international markets.

Investment Contributions

The funding announcement, made public on October 8, detailed contributions from several notable investment firms, including Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, and Morgan Creek Digital, alongside the returning support of Bain Capital Crypto, which also led previous funding rounds.

Market Expansion

With its headquarters in Bermuda, Meanwhile has received heightened interest in its Bitcoin-supported life insurance policies, particularly among affluent families located in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Since its inception, the company has successfully partnered with 15 insurance brokers that cater to wealthy clients in major financial hubs such as Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.

Growth Strategy

The event marks a continuation of Meanwhile’s growth strategy, following an earlier fundraising round of $82 million in October 2025, which was also spearheaded by Bain Capital Crypto. Just prior to that, Meanwhile had completed a $40 million Series A financing in April of the same year to bolster its international outreach.

Client Demand and Product Offerings

CEO and co-founder Zac Townsend noted that the surge in inquiries from brokers was largely fueled by their wealthy clients seeking innovative solutions for transferring their Bitcoin holdings to heirs. Townsend indicated that the implementation of an expanded distribution network was a direct response to this growing demand.

Stefan Cohen, a partner at Bain Capital Crypto, remarked on the company’s blend of conventional insurance practices with innovative technology as a pivotal factor that led them to reinvest. He also highlighted the company’s robust performance in 2026 as a significant point for their renewed financial support, although details on the company’s current valuation and revenue figures have not been publicly disclosed.

Innovative Insurance Products

Among the key products offered is BTC Life 1-Pay, introduced in early 2026, designed specifically for wealthy clients outside the U.S. This unique insurance product requires only a single Bitcoin premium for coverage, unlike traditional policies with recurring payments. Policyholders receive a guaranteed death benefit in Bitcoin, which can grow in value and allows them to borrow against the policy, simplifying wealth management tied to Bitcoin assets.

In addition to the BTC Life 1-Pay, Meanwhile also offers BTC 10-Pay, aimed at U.S. taxpayers and allowing for premium payments spread over ten years. Both offerings operate under a regulated insurance framework that conducts transactions and maintains reserves solely in Bitcoin, ensuring that benefits are issued in the same cryptocurrency.

Financial Growth and Regulatory Approval

Despite the innovative nature of its products, Meanwhile has not disclosed specific figures regarding the total number of policies sold or the overall value of Bitcoin premiums collected through its flagship offerings. The company is currently experiencing financial growth, asserting that its net long-term underwriting income for 2026 has already surpassed the entirety of its earnings from the previous year.

Furthermore, the Bermuda Monetary Authority granted Meanwhile a Class IILT insurance license in July 2024, permitting the company to conduct long-term insurance activities. Subsequently, the company has spent years in the regulator’s sandbox before obtaining authorization to provide its services, which are structured in line with the sophisticated client requirements dictated by Bermuda’s regulatory framework.

Future Outlook

With partners like Lioner and Apeiron Group contributing to its network, Meanwhile aims to capitalize on the growing interest among high-net-worth individuals in integrating digital assets into their wealth planning. The demand for Bitcoin-based insurance solutions is expected to rise as affluent clients increasingly seek strategies to manage and transfer their cryptocurrency wealth to future generations. However, details about the new broker partnerships and how many customers they are attracting have yet to be disclosed.

Meanwhile continues to secure its foothold in global markets, pinpointing strategic regions for its broker partnerships while navigating the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency regulation and insurance.
