Gulf International Bank’s Investment in MicroStrategy
In a strategic move reflecting its commitment to the cryptocurrency space, Gulf International Bank (UK), a financial institution with ties to Saudi Arabia, has disclosed a multi-million dollar investment in MicroStrategy, a leading company in corporate Bitcoin investments. According to a recent Form 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as of the end of September, the bank held 19,842 shares in MicroStrategy valued at approximately $2.9 million, based on current market conditions.
Investment History and Market Fluctuations
Although the shares were once valued at about $3.04 million, the slight decrease indicates market fluctuations. Notably, Gulf International Bank’s engagement with Bitcoin dates back to 2024 when it first invested in MicroStrategy shares. The bank reported its initial stake of 1,285 shares at an estimated value of $1.77 million before a substantial stock split in August 2024 that adjusted this figure to 12,850 shares.
Growth and Changes in Holdings
In subsequent quarters, Gulf International Bank saw significant increases in its Bitcoin holdings. By June 2025, it owned a remarkable 12,774 shares worth roughly $5.16 million, marking the peak of its investment valuation. However, by the end of December 2025, the bank recorded 13,249 shares valued around $2.01 million.
In the first quarter of 2026, the bank made a notable addition, increasing its MicroStrategy stake by 6,958 shares to reach a total holding of 20,207 shares, reflecting a remarkable 53% growth. Yet, following a slight reduction in the second quarter, Gulf International Bank’s position settled at 19,842 shares, maintaining this count through the third quarter of 2026.
Indirect Exposure to Bitcoin
Gulf International Bank’s substantial holdings in MicroStrategy offer it indirect exposure to Bitcoin, as MicroStrategy is recognized as the largest corporate investor in the digital currency landscape. Underlining this dominance, MicroStrategy, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, holds an impressive total of 848,517 BTC as of the latest reports on October 19.
The bank itself remains under the significant influence of the Saudi government, with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) owning a predominant 97.2% of the institution, further highlighting the financial ties between Gulf International Bank, its Bitcoin investments, and Saudi Arabian interests.
