Ripple National Trust Bank Receives Final Endorsement

Ripple has successfully obtained final endorsement from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for its Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB). This approval allows RNTB to oversee the reserves for its RLUSD stablecoin and to offer digital asset custody solutions.

The approval, announced on Monday, concludes the bank’s chartering process, which began with conditional approval from the OCC back in December 2025. As a federally regulated trust bank, RNTB is empowered to:

  • Manage funds that underpin the Ripple USD (RLUSD)
  • Serve as a collateral trustee for RLUSD holders
  • Facilitate digital asset custody services

Nevertheless, the issuance of RLUSD will still be conducted by the Standard Custody & Trust Company, a limited-purpose trust entity regulated by New York’s financial authorities.

“We’ve long advocated for the synergy between cryptocurrency and banking, and this represents that vision with tangible innovation, accountability, and federal oversight,” remarked Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse on X.

Ripple’s Position in the Cryptocurrency Landscape

This development places Ripple alongside Circle, which received its OCC final approval earlier in July. Meanwhile, other cryptocurrency enterprises, such as Coinbase, Crypto.com, and Bridge—owned by Stripe—are still navigating through the conditional approval phase.

It’s important to note that a national trust bank, unlike traditional commercial banks, is focused on asset management and custody for clients, rather than engaging in deposit-taking or loan-making activities. Additionally, it typically does not carry FDIC insurance as outlined by the OCC.
