In a chilling incident in Solihull, West Midlands, a couple fell victim to a disturbing home invasion carried out by four individuals, resulting in the forced transfer of a substantial amount of cryptocurrency. The attack occurred on December 13 when the couple returned to their residence in Smith’s Wood around 5:20 PM.
Details of the Attack
As they entered, three assailants exited a nearby vehicle, overpowered the husband, who sustained significant injuries, while his pregnant wife was threatened with a knife. Under duress, they transferred their cryptocurrency to a wallet controlled by the intruders before the attackers fled in a black BMW X3, making off with both the funds and several expensive watches.
Investigation and Community Response
Authorities believe the robbery was meticulously planned, with a fourth participant allegedly directing the attack via video call from a remote location. Alan Edwards, the regional manager for the independent charity Crimestoppers, emphasized that there are likely others who have knowledge of the crime, suggesting a broader network might be involved. In a bid to gather more information, Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £10,000 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

According to CertiK, a cybersecurity firm specializing in blockchain technology, such attacks rose dramatically in 2026, comprising 41% of criminal incidents involving crypto, a notable increase from a single known case the previous year. In total, there were 52 reported attacks, leading to losses exceeding $124.1 million. Notably, Europe, and particularly France, has seen the highest number of such incidents.

As law enforcement continues to investigate this specific case, they face challenges due to the assailants wearing face coverings, making positive identification difficult. Reports indicate that all four suspects are believed to be in their twenties.
